Competitor war-map: hiring is a public roadmap.

This is a strategic analysis, not a contact export. We measured eight of Brighty's competitors across the external professional graph: how many people, and in which functions, each of them has right now, where they're hiring (= where they're investing) and how many of their alumni already sit inside Brighty's team (the warm channel). When a competitor opens 1,790 compliance roles in a year while Brighty has zero growth owners, that isn't an opinion — it's a measurable fact. The map reads three ways: where Brighty is behind, where the market is heading and who can be poached.

01Why this matters to Brighty

Three ways to read the same map — each one yields an action.

Where Brighty is behind

Comparing Brighty's functional make-up against the field exposes structural gaps — above all in growth/marketing. That's a direct entry point into the client's priority No. 1 (finding customers): first close a growth owner.

Where the market is heading

A competitor's open roles are its roadmap said out loud. A compliance-hiring spike = regulatory expansion; an engineering spike = product build-out. Brighty can see where the market will move before the announcements.

Who to poach

Wherever a competitor has a dense pool of a function Brighty needs, that's where the candidates are. And a competitor's alumni who have already settled into Brighty become a warm referral channel for outreach.

Why this is our method, not Apollo

Off-the-shelf tools give a static firmographic snapshot. We read the functional make-up, hiring dynamics over time and the bloodline overlap with Brighty itself — graph derivatives a commodity vendor simply doesn't have.

02The battlefield: size and hiring pace

Eight competitors, sorted by presence in the graph. "In graph" — the current positions we can see (broader than a company's self-report, since it includes distributed and un-updated roles). "Open now" — active openings right now. "Last 12 mo" — postings over the past year = pace of investment.

CompetitorIn graphOpen nowOpenings, last 12 moAlumni in BrightySignal
Revolut38,9852,3969,7899aggressive expansion · warm channel

Nexo1,493331640selective hiring
Mercuryo710141460comparable in size
Wirex6693300hiring nearly halted
Ramp5610280hiring frozen
What reads immediately. The market has stratified: Revolut is in a league of its own (2,396 open roles — more than the entire headcount of any of the four smaller competitors combined). Crypto.com and N26 are in active build-out. And Wirex (3) and Ramp (0) have all but stopped hiring — for them a signal of stagnation, for Brighty a pool of available candidates and a weakened rival.

03Where the leader is investing — Revolut's hiring over 12 months

Open and recent roles by function = a declaration of intent. Revolut's dual priority is unmistakable.

Compliance / Risk1,790
Marketing / Growth1,526
Engineering / Data1,156
Product717
Translated into strategy. Revolut is simultaneously reinforcing its regulatory perimeter (1,790 compliance roles — preparing for new licenses/markets) and pressing on growth (1,526 marketing roles). For Brighty this is both a warning (the leader is expanding into the same niches) and a confirmation of priority: the market is voting with money for growth and compliance — exactly the functions where Brighty has a gap.

04Brighty against the field — functional make-up

Brighty's team composition (current positions by function) alongside how the competitors are built. The figures are positions in the graph; a single person may hold more than one role, so this is a composition profile, not a per-head headcount.

Marketing / Growth11,238403258the main structural gap — no growth owner
Finance1919436119thin — hence the open head-of-finance role
The loudest number on the map. Marketing/Growth at Brighty = 1 position. N26 (also not a giant) has 258; Revolut opened 1,526 in a single year of hiring alone. And the client's priority No. 1 is finding customers. The takeaway isn't "hire more people in general" — it's precise: there's no growth owner, the function that directly drives priority No. 1. That's the first role worth closing, and we can assemble an ICP for it the same way we did for MLRO/CISO/CFO.

05Bloodlines — who came from where

How many of Brighty's current people previously worked at each competitor. This is a map of warm channels: "your former colleague is already here and happy" removes the biggest barrier to outreach.

SourceAlumni in BrightyWhat it gives you
Revolut9the dominant corridor — this is Brighty's engineering core (CTO and lead backend); the strongest referral channel for hiring out of Revolut
N261a weak but existing bridge
Crypto.com · Bitpanda · Nexo · Mercuryo · Wirex · Ramp0no direct overlap — a cold channel, but the talent pool is available
What we verified in the data. The Revolut → Brighty corridor is not a generality: cross-checked against the graph, the overlap runs precisely through the engineering core — the co-founder/CTO and several lead backend engineers came from Revolut. In other words, Brighty's technical foundation is built on Revolut alumni. That's exactly why Revolut is the warmest channel: shared experience, shared stack, built-in trust.
Practical takeaway. For any hire out of Revolut, Brighty has built-in trust — this should be used first (as already done in the AML/CISO/CFO datasets, where Revolut is the top donor). For the other competitors the channel is cold but the talent is real: there you go in with scoring and personalization, not "one of us".

06The poaching pool — who left and is available

"Who to poach" is not a slogan — it's a measurable layer. Here's how many people left each competitor over 24 months (= available talent), their share of current headcount (attrition = an instability indicator) and how many of the leavers sit in Brighty's hiring geo (EU/EEA + Switzerland + UK + UAE). High attrition + frozen hiring = a company losing people who are open to a move.

* Attrition = leavers over 24 mo ÷ current headcount in the graph. A guide to relative instability, not an official HR metric. "In Brighty's geo" (EU/EEA + Switzerland + UK + UAE) is computed for all eight competitors.

The most underrated signal on the map. Ramp is losing ~50% of its headcount over two years and has not opened a single role. This is a company in contraction — its people are looking for a stable platform. 155 of the leavers are already in Brighty's geo, so no relocation is needed. For selective hiring (especially product/engineering) this is the least costly hot pool on the map. And the 3,809 Revolut alumni in-zone are not "corridor theory" — they're a concrete pool ready for a dataset, with a warm referral angle.
What we added in the fresh pass. We closed all eight rows on "in Brighty's geo". Two clean hits: Nexo — 351 of 361 leavers (97%) already in-zone, and N26 — 1,081 of 1,145 (94%). That means the N26 and Nexo alumni pools sit almost entirely in EU/EEA+CH+GB+AE — no relocation required, making them the two most "geographically clean" sources after the Revolut corridor. Crypto.com's share is lower (632 of 1,199 ≈ 53%) — it's more global, roughly half the pool in-zone.

07What to do with it — recommendations

1
Close a growth owner — gap No. 1
Marketing/Growth = 1 while the stated priority is "finding customers". We'll assemble an ICP for "Head of Growth / Performance Marketing in fintech" with the same method as MLRO/CISO. A growth owner closes priority No. 1 (finding customers): 109 ready candidates with contacts instead of ~3 months of sourcing and a recruiter fee of 20–25% of annual salary. ACTIONABLE
2
Use the Revolut corridor — 9 inside, 3,809 alumni in-zone
The warmest hiring channel: 9 people already came from Revolut, and 3,809 who left it over 24 months are available in Brighty's geo. For any hard role — start with Revolut alumni and the referral angle. MEASURED
3
Target the collapsing Ramp — 50% attrition, 0 hiring
Ramp is losing ~half its headcount over 2 years and isn't hiring; 155 leavers are already in Brighty's geo. The least costly hot pool for selective hiring (product/engineering). Wirex (3 open) is next. ACTIONABLE
4
Put it on monitoring — hiring = roadmap
A competitor's compliance-hiring spike = it's entering a new market. This turns into a subscription trigger feed — an early signal of market moves. ROADMAP
