Who hires in Barcelona tech, and how much: 50,288 hires in 2025 and 81,957 job postings in the last twelve months at 9,491 companies

The sizing of 20 October rebuilt the market from career histories. This round puts the hiring numbers on the widened company list — the client's 2,825 seed companies, the agencies, the new AI companies and the relocated teams on top of the tech flag — and adds the vacancies: every job posting located in Barcelona metro since July 2021. Per company, per sector, per function, with the AI share. Aggregates and company names only; the full dataset goes to the project team, a sample is linked at the end.

Where the hiring is, by sector

Which companies hire faster: funding, HQ, age, size

Hires in 2025 per 100 people on the Barcelona team on 31 Dec 2024, for the 7,011 map companies with at least five people then; next to it, postings in the last 12 months per 100 people today. These are associations in the data, not causes. Companies whose last round is dated 2024–26 hired 20 people per 100 staff in 2025; companies with no round on record hired 14. Foreign companies' Barcelona hubs hired 18 per 100, Barcelona-headquartered companies 16. Companies founded in 2020 or later hired 28 per 100, those founded before 2000 13.

The hiring files, on top of the round-1 archive

companies.jsonl stays the one source of truth — every company now carries its sector, whether it is on the map and why, and a postings block by year and for the last 12 months. The CSVs are cut from it; Table 4 (postings) ships as rows. The sample below holds 25 full company records, the top-40 hirers, the sector table, the city's monthly series and 200 posting rows.

How hires are countedA hire is a position that started in the year at the company, in Barcelona by the brief's rule; one person who joins twice counts twice. Departures are positions that ended. Function, seniority and AI are read from the title (English, Spanish, Catalan). Past years are undercounted and 2025 lags; the trend and the ranking within a year are the reliable reads.

How postings are countedOne posting per job id (the newest stored row wins when a job is stored twice). Date = when it was posted (53% from the posted timestamp, the rest from the posted date or the start of the posted range). Company = the posting's company id, else its company slug or exact name (15,056 postings attached that way). Re-posts of the same role are separate postings; distinct titles are reported next to the counts.

The map setThe companies the views are about: the round-1 tech flag, the client's seed companies found with people in Barcelona, the brief's agencies and studios, the 2023+ AI companies and the relocated teams; universities, hospitals and public bodies excluded. The other 20,290 delivered Barcelona employers (454,509 people) are in the data with map_set.in = false.

EdgesSector is a rule, not a measurement. A posting counts for the company page it was posted from: global groups often post Barcelona roles from a country page that is its own record here (Accenture vs Accenture España) or as Spain-wide, so a large hirer can show few postings. Postings at employers we do not deliver (46% since July 2021) count in the city series only. The posting archive's capture varies by month; it has no remote/hybrid field, and salary is stated on few postings. The people data is a spring-2026 snapshot; postings run to 21 October 2026.
